El Poblado is the practical first base. Most of the hotels are here, Provenza feeds you, and Parque Lleras is the nightlife. The catch is the hill. Poblado and Aguacatala stations sit on the valley floor, and a lot of the rooms are above them.
Overview
El Poblado is where most visitors stay: green, hilly, and full of restaurants, cafés and bars.
I would stay here on a first trip and treat the walk home as the workout. If you hate hills, look at Laureles instead. See El Poblado vs Laureles.
Highlights
- Provenza’s restaurants and cocktail bars.
- Parque Lleras nightlife.
- Poblado and Aguacatala Metro stations, down on the flat.
Getting around
The Metro runs along the valley floor. Taxis handle the hills. See getting around.
Who it suits
First-timers, people who want to eat well, and anyone going out at night. Read is Medellín safe? before you do the second one. The bars are fun. The drink you leave on the table is not.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Metro in El Poblado?
Poblado and Aguacatala stations are on the valley floor. Many hotels are uphill from them.
Is El Poblado a good first base?
Yes. It has the most hotels, restaurants and nightlife. The streets are steep, so plan for that.
