There is no bad month for the weather. Medellín stays mild because it sits at about 1,500 m. December to March and around July to August are usually drier. April–May and October–November tend to be wetter. If I had to pick a date for the feeling of the city, I would pick August, for the Feria de las Flores. Book the hotel early. December is the other busy one, for the Christmas lights.
The short answer
There’s no bad month; choose based on rain and events.
| Period | What to expect |
|---|---|
| December–March | Usually drier; Christmas lights in December |
| April–May | Often wetter, with afternoon storms |
| June–August | Drier spells; Feria de las Flores in August |
| September–November | Often wetter, especially October |
Feria de las Flores

The city’s big festival, in August, centres on the silleteros parade. Growers from Santa Elena carry huge flower displays on their backs. Hotels fill and prices rise, so book early. I love a festival, and this is the one Medellín actually throws. Check the city’s calendar for the exact dates each year. I am not going to invent them.
Christmas lights

From late November to early January, the city puts up the Alumbrados lights along the river and in parks.
Rain
Even in wetter months, rain usually comes as afternoon storms. Plan outdoor trips such as Guatapé for the morning. A dawn run still works. A 3pm hike up the rock often does not.
