Choose El Poblado if you want the hotels, the restaurants and the nightlife in one hillside. Choose Laureles if you want flat, leafy streets, a local feel, and a morning you can actually run without climbing. Both are on the Metro. That is the whole argument, and it is a good one.

The default for first-timers, and I do not fight that. You will eat well and you will walk uphill. El Poblado hotels.
Laureles

Better for walking, cafés and a longer stay. La 70 is where the evening happens, at a volume that is not Parque Lleras. Laureles hotels.
